School of Information Technology holds ICT Training in RNHS

The School of Information Technology (SIT) extended aid to Roxas National High School (RNHS) in preparing its teachers for the School Year 2023-2024 last August 23, 2023 at Marcos Highway, Baguio City.

Ms. Grace Domingo, School Head of RNHS, requested training for their teachers that would focus on being more adept with Learning Management Systems (LMS), how to digitize assessment tools to facilitate online tests and evaluation, and game-based learning using the learner’s gadgets. According to Ms. Domingo, this topic is in line with the MATATAG curriculum agenda of DepEd to support the teachers and facilitate better teaching techniques.

Ms. Hydi Toyeng and Ms. Junamil Zamora, both SIT faculty, elaborated on the topic as the speaker and facilitator respectively of the said activity. UB SIT is delighted to serve and hear the good feedback of Ms. Domingo as she is also inquiring how RNHS can be adopted by the University of Baguio. Ms. Domingo used to be affiliated with Lucnab National High School and she is knowledgeable in how UB advocates quality education and community services. The university aims to continue helping RNHS to better equip their teaching staff to face current ongoing developments in the field of education.

GearSolve Home Repair Services Mobile Application

There is growing interest in selling services online, such as food delivery, booking tickets, booking hotels, etc. However, developing online services to assist people in need of repair. services have yet to be realized. Previous studies demonstrated that there is a strong trend toward shopping online, which helped reach a larger audience, and gave more opportunities for more jobs. The use of online services has increased in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The research is done to create a new system that will help service repair companies connect with a wider audience via online means. Developers used Agile, specifically Scrum methodology, to develop the system. The system used React for the frontend admin side and React Native for the mobile application, connected to a REST API backend made using Express.js. The admin is used to help manage the system, while the public will only access the mobile app. The Developers created a list of functions, interfaces in the system, a total of 4 user roles, made use of MVC architecture and two-tier architecture to develop the system, The developed system’s REST API has nine routes in total; the admin side has nine navigation routes, and the mobile app has four; the mobile app makes use of three user roles in total. The implementation plan is used to deploy the application on the Play Store, train service providers on how to use the application, and follow up on feedback for improvements.

University of Baguio: The Visual Novel

The capstone project entitled “University of Baguio: The Visual Novel” is an undertaking in game development with the aim of developing and publishing a visual novel game that aids players in choosing their course in addition to identifying and correlating the various aspects and technicalities of the game. Based on various studies and research, teens struggle to make career choices such as the program they would like to take in college. This, along with the case studies that justify the use of visual novels to address life management issues has been used as the driving force to create the game: University of Baguio: The Visual Novel. For the methodology, the RAD model was modified to be used in the study. The requirements planning phase led to the in-depth documentation of the game through the GDD. User design and construction led to the various prototypes of the game with documented changes made by the developers and suggestions from player feedback as well as the demo version published before the final release. The deliverable for the cutover phase is the version 1.0.0 of the game released to the public. The result of the study is the successful development and publishing of the game.
