Pre-Employment Webinar: Pursuing Professional Competence

The University of Baguio CCSD held the 2024 Pre-Employment Webinar on March 02, 2024 for graduating students of the University of Baguio via Zoom meeting. The webinar focused on pre-employment preparation, emphasizing the importance of workplace wellness and providing insights for writing effective cover letters and resumes. Breakout room sessions were held for each department, allowing students to engage with their speakers about market trends and opportunities, as well as how to write effective cover letters.

Plenary session one discusses wellness in the workplace. Wellness in the workplace encompasses both physical and mental aspects of health. The webinar, on the other hand, emphasized the significance of mental health in the workplace, recognizing it as a crucial topic. In professional settings, individuals often feel hesitant to openly discuss their mental health struggles due to concerns about facing discrimination from their colleagues. Therefore, it is important to discuss mental health wellness to students for them to be able to prepare for the challenges that they might face in their workplace.

The second plenary session covered the essentials of job applications, with a particular focus on creating an effective cover letter and resume. A resume is a concise summary of education, skills, work experience, and accomplishments.

Although the qualifications are listed in the resume, the cover letter gives you an opportunity to express your interest and personality with regards to the job you’re applying for. Resume and cover letter should be well-organized, simple to read, and suitable for the position you’re looking for. By properly expressing yourself, you can increase your odds on getting interviews and even securing your desired position!

The second section of the webinar began with the setting up of breakout rooms on the Zoom meeting platform. Each breakout room was led by a different speaker, and explored deeper into particular subjects relevant to their course.
