A team of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) students from the University of Baguio has garnered attention for their development of a Youth Profiling System designed for the community of La Trinidad. This innovative application, which aims to centralize and manage youth data within the municipality, was created by students Dale Matthew Boquiren, Hyra Cayambas, Rhoederflynne Gatarin, Dee Jay Pacio, and Lawrence Jay Jimenez, under the mentorship of their teacher, Mr. Benny Cris Pio.
The Youth Profiling System was showcased at the 2nd Youth Research Congress, held at the Municipal Gym in La Trinidad, Benguet, on August 21, 2024. The following day, August 22, 2024, the project was awarded 1st Place during the awarding ceremony, earning the students a plaque and a cash prize in recognition of their significant technological innovation.
This application is designed to generate detailed profiles of the youth in La Trinidad. It collects and organizes comprehensive data, including personal information, educational background, social interactions, and activities, into a centralized system. The primary goal is to provide local leaders and policymakers with valuable insights into youth demographics, enabling them to make informed decisions when creating policies, designing youth development programs – such as employment and education initiatives, and strategically allocating resources.
Moreover, the Youth Profiling System is designed to be adaptable for use in other municipalities across Benguet and the Cordillera Administrative Region. This potential for broader application highlights the system’s capacity to support youth development efforts on a larger scale.
The success of the University of Baguio students in developing this system highlights the vital role that academic institutions and young innovators can play in community development. Their work on the Youth Profiling System is a testament to their technical skills and their commitment to making a positive impact on society.
