The School of Information Technology successfully held an innovative seminar entitled “The Human Edge: Essential Skills in the Era of Intelligent Machines” last October 18, 2025, at the AMS Hall of the RCB Building. The seminar was organized to orient and upskill the students about the concept of Artificial Intelligence as it is one of the rising technologies in the modern world.

Led by Mr. Reymart Canuel, a UB SIT Alumni and Senior Principal Engineer of Kollab, the seminar explored the evolving relationship between humans and artificial intelligence. Mr. Canuel shared valuable insights on how students can develop human-centered skills–such as critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence–to thrive in a technology-driven world.

Organized by Prince Bajarin, Alexander Benzon, Charles Bihasa, Samantha Aguinaldo, and Jireh Antonis under the guidance of Ms. Junamil Zamora, the event empowered participants from Computer Engineering and Information Technology to recognize the importance of maintaining their human edge and values amidst rapid digital transformation.

The program explored and supported SDG 4, Quality Education, by enhancing their knowledge about Artificial Intelligence and its integration with everyday activities (SDG 4.4.1). It also supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by ensuring that all participants are able to gain this technological information with liberty (SDG 9.c.1) which also gives them the opportunity to communicate what they learned and realized to other people.

As the School of Information Technology aims to produce innovative and competent professionals, this seminar has surely been an enlightening activity for the students through interactive discussions and sharing of experiences from the workplace. The accomplishment of this program, not just by the participants but by everyone who was involved, contributed to the mission of the University of Baguio to equip the students with future-ready skills and values that align with the demands of the modern workforce.
