Brainwave XII: Tomorrow’s Future, The AI Technological Revolution

The University of Baguio F Building buzzed excitedly on April 25, 2024, as the School of Information Technology (SIT) hosted its much-anticipated 12th Brainwave competition. With the theme “Tomorrow’s Future, The AI Technological Revolution,” this annual event serves as a platform for SIT students to showcase their skills and talents in various fields of IT, from computer programming to digital artistry.

Notably, one of the remarkable features of Brainwave XII is its inclusivity. The event is open to all bona fide SIT students regardless of their program; Brainwave XII encourages student participation across disciplines. This year, students had the chance to compete in various competitions, including Quiz Bee,  IT Journey, Computer Programming 2, Network Troubleshooting 1 & 2, Circuit Building, and creativity in different areas such as Video Ad Competition,  Digital Poster making, and Digital painting. The competition also enables students to showcase their skills in Esports competitions such as League of Legends and Tekken 7.

The competition started from 8:00 to 5:00 pm; participants engaged in activities designed to test their skills and creativity. The morning started with adrenaline-pumping Esports battles and mind-bending challenges in the Quiz Bee and IT Journey. Brainwave XII introduced its first-ever IT Journey, an escape room-style adventure where students navigated through programming puzzles and networking challenges that showcase their teamwork and problem-solving abilities.

Meanwhile, Digital Poster Making and Digital Painting enabled students to unleash creativity. Participants poured their imagination onto digital screens and crafted visually stunning artworks that reflected the theme, “Tomorrow’s Future, The AI Technological Revolution,” which focuses on the empowering growth of AI in technological employment. Artwork creations are displayed in the Wi-Fi area as part of the event’s art exhibit.

Furthermore, participants donned their virtual detective hats in network troubleshooting competitions, solving network errors and demonstrating proficiency with tools like Packet Tracer. With precision and quick thinking, students identified issues and proposed solutions that showcase their technical prowess in IT infrastructure.

Beyond the joy of competition, Esports fans found their haven in Brainwave XII’s League of Legends and Tekken 7 tournaments. The competition unfolded over several days, culminating in exciting finals that drew crowds of students and faculty alike. From intense battles on Summoner’s Rift to fierce one-on-one duels in Tekken, competitors left no stone unturned in their quest for victory.

Brainwave XII also introduced the Breadboarding Competition, a platform for Computer Engineering students to demonstrate their expertise in logic circuits and switching theory. Participants showcased their ability to design and analyze complex circuits, pushing the boundaries of innovation in hardware engineering.

With the event’s success, the School of Information Technology upholds its vision to create a dynamic learning environment through its annual Brainwave event. The event challenges the students to showcase their skills, talents, and intellect in their selected field. With the growing technological integration of Artificial Intelligence, the School’s theme this year for the event is “Tomorrow’s Future, The AI Technological Revolution,” which focuses on the empowering growth of AI in technological employment.
